Male Black Darter
A quick visit to Crowle with Roger this morning hoping to get mature male black darters. It began warm and sunny but soon clouded over and although still warm by 12.00 there was little dragonfly activitiy. During the morning, however we did have plenty of black darters and I was pleased to get some shots of the all black males. There was also a fair amount of butterfly activity with small copper, gatekeeper, ringlet, meadow brown and brown argus on the wing. Yellow rattle was in flower and seed and it was pleasing to hear the yaffle of a green woodpecker ringing across the reserve.
